Tarzan (lion) PDF Print E-mail

2003:  Tarzan was rescued from Cancun, Mexico.  He lived in a prision-like cage for most of his precious 18-months of life behind a hotel (see photograph below).  All he had to keep him occupied in his 3'x3'x4' cage was an old coconut shell.  During the last part of December, we purchased a special animal transport van in which he was comfortably driven from Cancun, Mexico to San Antonio, Texas.

Tarzan touched the hearts of many, including the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), as they assisted in his transfer from Mexico to the United States.  We are especially grateful to our donors for covering the costs of Tarzan's transportation and medical care expenses.

Today, Tarzan lives with Sheba and Sebastian.  Like Tarzan, Sheba  is also from Cancun, Mexico and her adventure from Mexico to Texas was documented by Animal Planet’s “Growing Up Lion” television show.
